Minnesota court rules in favor of trucking companies

A judge has issued orders to the Minnesota State Patrol on how to change its practices concerning drivers of commercial vehicles. This decision was made to protect truckers' Fourth Amendment rights, according to Trucking Info.

"This is one of the most favorable, precedent-setting decisions for the members of the Association and for all truckers that we’ve seen in more than 20 years," Jim Johnston, president of the Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association, said in a release.

The judge vowed to limit the amount of harassment drivers received from State Patrol authorities by ruling in favor of the trucking companies.

This ruling could lead to a nationwide trend, as the decision will likely be cited in cases that take place across the U.S., Trucking Info reported.

Due to this potential good news, owners may want to invest in the expansion of their business and in late-model used trucks, which can be purchased at lower prices. A 1031 exchange of trucks also allows trucking companies to reduce their overall costs to acquire newer trucking assets by reducing taxes and additional financial costs through the deferment of payment.
