Apple wins intellectual property caseThe World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) has ruled in favor of Apple in a ruling that resolved a complaint that was filed by the technology giant, according to Tech Gadgets. Apple had filed the complaint in an effort to secure the domain name, ipods.com, as an individual had purchased the website name in 2001 as part of an effort to exploit the company's prestige as a way of getting traffic to their site, the news source reported. While Apple has succeeded in gaining the rights to the domain ipods.com, there are several other technologies that the company has not registered specific websites for. The iPad and iCloud software may present similar problems, as iCloud.com and iPad.com have already been purchased, reported Tech Gadgets. Officials from the WIPO cited the Uniform Dispute Resolution Policy as the basis for the decision, according to Apple Insider. The nature of the patent industry is changing rapidly, as many decisions are being made that are transforming the way that companies approach copyright issues. Businesses that are looking to protect their assets may want to participate in an intellectual property exchange.
