Twenty-six associations, including the Federation of Exchange Accommodators, signed a letter to Donald Trump's presidential campaign urging the preservation of Section 1031 like-kind exchanges. The letter provides insight into the benefits of capital gain deferral for real estate by small businesses, farmers, ranchers, and for use in land conservation. Like-kind exchanges accelerate domestic investment and broad-based job growth, help level the playing field for small businesses and entrepreneurs, and allow farmers and ranchers to preserve their life savings. Further, like-kind exchanges contribute to land conservation efforts and the provision of affordable housing in communities across the country.
